The BJP orgainsed a ‘Run for Unity’ event in several parts of the state on Wednesday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said that the event was organised to recognise the contribution of Patel and pay tribute to him.

“He was the person who united the country. His contribution in Indian politics is unparalleled. To mark his birth anniversary, our party has organised ‘Run for Unity’ in every block of this country,” Ghosh said.

The BJP also slammed the Congress for “not paying proper respect to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.”

“The Congress did not recognise the contribution of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and only popularised their own leaders. Our government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made efforts to pay tribute to Patel by recognising their ideals and spreading them to the people,” Ghosh added.

Several BJP leaders including Sayantan Basu, Joy Prakash Majumdar took part in the event. While one ‘Run for Unity’ event was organised from Shyambazar five-point crossing to Central Avenue in Kolkata, other one was from state BJP headquarters in Central Avenue to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s statue in Chandni Chowk where party leaders paid floral tribute to the Patel.

In north Bengal, the event was organised in Jalpaiguri district.
