Lanus are into their first Copa Libertadores decider after an epic comeback sealed an extraordinary semi-final victory over compatriots River Plate on Wednesday.
Down a goal from the first leg, Lanus seemed out of the contest after River collected two away goals by the 45-minutes mark.
However, Lanus pulled a goal back through Jose Sand in first-half injury time and the veteran striker repeated the feat almost immediately after the second-half restart.
The momentum continued for Lanus and there were ahead 4-3 on aggregate by the midway point of the second period thanks to further goals from Lautaro Acosta and Alejandro Silva.
Lanus now await the winner of the other semi-final between Gremio and Ecuador’s Barcelona, with the Brazilians boasting a hefty 3-0 first-leg advantage.
The winner will represent South America in next month’s FIFA Club World Cup in the UAE.
