Asus ZenPhone 5 series embraces modern smartphone design, notch and all

READ MORE Asus CEO Jerry Shen took the stage at Mobile World Congress 2018 and took the wraps off not one, but three new ZenPhone 5 devices: the ZenPhone 5Z, ZenPhone 5 and ZenPhone 5 Lite. The announcement brings Asus’ ZenPhone line up to par with modern smartphone design, including adding the ubiquitous notch to one of the devices. Let’s start with the best of the bunch, the ZenPhone 5Z. During the unveiling of the ZenPhone 5 series, Asus made it abundantly clear that it went in a direction that consumers want. That meant it slimmed down the bezels, included bigger displays and added design quirks that make the phone stand out. All that coalesced into the ZenPhone 5Z, a mobile powerhouse. The specs speak for themselves; the Snapdragon 845, configured 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and dual camera system ensure this device has all the features consumers want. Asus followed a similar path with design. On the front of the 5Z lives a 6.2-inch display that overtakes nearly the...

READ MORE Angel Di Maria celebrates after scoring for PSG Photo:AP With star striker Neymar out injured, Angel Di Maria staked his claim to start against Real Madrid next week by scoring two goals as Paris Saint-Germain beat a sloppy Marseille side 3-0 Wednesday to reach the French Cup semifinals. Di Maria put French Cup holder PSG ahead on the stroke of halftime, whipping in a fierce shot from the edge of the penalty area after Marseille failed to clear the ball properly and it was played back into his path. Marseille’s poor defending led to the Argentina winger’s second goal, three minutes after the break. Center half Aymen Abdennour failed to clear an easy ball — swiping wildly as it went under his foot — and Di Maria fired in his 12th goal since January. PSG’s top scorer Edinson Cavani guided in the third after Julian Draxler astutely headed the ball into his path with 10 minutes left. League leader PSG beat Marseille by the same score on Sunday, and ju...

Facebook's EU Regulator Says WhatsApp Yet to Resolve Data Sharing Issue

READ MORE WhatsApp has still not brought forward proposals to address EU regulators’ concerns over the messaging service’s sharing of user data with parent company Facebook , Facebook’s European regulator said on Wednesday. The popular messaging service changed its privacy policy over a year ago to start sharing users’ phone numbers and other information with Facebook. That drew widespread regulatory scrutiny across Europe, and WhatsApp subsequently suspended the data sharing for EU users. The Irish data protection authority (DPC) – which has jurisdiction over Facebook because the company’s European headquarters are in Dublin – said last April it hoped to reach a deal with WhatsApp on the data sharing in a matter of months. With no proposals forthcoming, the DPC said it had maintained its insistence that WhatsApp’s EU personal data not be shared with Facebook for the management of advertising campaigns and product enhancement purposes unt...

Voyager 2: Sailing Among Giant Planets

READ MORE Voyager 2, despite its name, was the first of two twin probes launched in 1977 to explore the outer planets. While Voyager 1 focused on Jupiter and Saturn, Voyager 2 took close-up pictures of those planets as well as Uranus and Neptune. Voyager 2’s mission to those last two planets would be humanity’s only visit there in the 20th century. Even today, the spacecraft is still beaming back information from the very edge of the solar system. Carrying a golden record bearing sounds from Earth, Voyager 2 is poised to enter interstellar space and rake in new scientific discoveries, 40 years after its launch.  Credit: NASA/JPL Voyager 2 launched on Aug. 20, 1977, and Voyager 1 launched about two weeks later, on Sept. 5. NASA planned for the Voyager spacecraft to take advantage of an alignment of the outer planets that takes place only every 176 years. It would let each probe swing from one planet to the next, using a gravity boost to help it along the way. The V...

Voyager 1: Earth's Farthest Spacecraft

READ MORE Voyager 1 is the first spacecraft to reach interstellar space. It originally was launched (along with Voyager 2) in 1977 to explore the outer planets in our solar system. However, it has remained operational long past expectations and continues to send information about its journeys back to Earth.  The spacecraft officially entered interstellar space in August 2012, almost 35 years after its voyage began. The discovery wasn’t made official until 2013, however, when scientists had time to review the data sent back from Voyager 1. Voyager 1 was actually the second of the twin spacecraft to launch, but it was the first to race by Jupiter and Saturn. The images it sent back have been used in schoolbooks and newspaper outlets for a generation. Also on board was a special record, carrying voices and music from Earth out into the cosmos.  Voyager 2 launched on Aug. 20, 1977, and Voyager 1 launched about two weeks later, on Sept. 5. Since then, the spacecraft ha...

Upset Congress Skips Lokpal Meet, Urges "Statesman-Like Conduct" From PM

READ MORE New Delhi:  A top committee including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Justice of India, meets today on the appointment of an anti-corruption Lokpal but the main opposition Congress has refused to be a part of it, objecting to “special invitee” status in the meeting. “A more apt and statesman-like conduct is expected from the prime minister of the country,” Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has written in a sharp letter to PM Modi, refusing the invitation. “My mere presence as special invitee without rights of participation, recording of my opinion and voting would be a mere eyewash ostensibly aimed at showcasing the participation of the opposition in the selection process,” he says, calling the ‘Special Invitee Invitation’ a concerted effort to exclude the opposition from the selection process. The selection panel includes the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India, the Lok Sabha Speaker and an eminent juris...
